A Reflexology Treatment

The initial consultation and treatment is usually 1 ½ to 2 hours in duration. On entering the practice, the client will be asked to remove their socks and shoes and be seated in a comfortable reflexology chair. The client will be asked to complete a medical history and lifestyle assessment form - all information gathered is kept confidential. While filling out the form the client will have their feet soaking in a hot foot bath containing organic foot salts. Information gathered during the assessment will enable the Reflexologist to assess any current problems, to offer advice as to how to improve upon lifestyle choices (where appropriate), and to prepare the most beneficial treatment plan. The client will also have the opportunity to discuss any areas of particular concern and what they hope to gain from the treatments.

After reviewing the assessment forms, the feet are dried and the client will settle back into a reclining position in the reflexology chair with their feet raised to enable the Reflexologist to have better access for treatment.

Next a physical inspection of the feet is performed and information recorded.

After the physical examination has been completed, the left foot will be wrapped in a towel whilst the Reflexologist performs the reflexology treatment on the Right foot, followed by the Left foot. The treatment starts with some gentle relaxing and loosening techniques, and then the Reflexologist will work through all areas of the feet from the toes down to the heels stimulating all the reflex points, with particular emphasis on any problem areas. A pressure that is comfortable to the client is applied and although the treatment should be relaxing, the Reflexologist may feel tender spots, crunchiness, tightness etc… during which the client may feel a little discomfort and must report this to the Reflexologist. The treatment finishes with a relaxing deep breathing exercise and a lower leg/foot rub with an organic foot cream.

Immediately after the initial treatment, the client may feel relaxed, calm, drowsy, full of energy, warm or cold. The Reflexologist will ask the client how they feel and will advise them to drink plenty of water and suggest that they take an Epsom Salts bath to help flush out toxins released by the treatment. At subsequent treatments the client will be asked how they have been since the previous treatment and whether they have noticed any changes. Clients may see an immediate improvement in their medical condition from their initial treatment, but it may take up to three treatments before the client sees any significant changes. As part of the healing process and as a result of the release of toxins from the body, the client may feel thirstier, tired, feel the need for more frequent urination or bowel movements, become more emotional or have a headache. In some cases there may be a slight worsening of the condition before improvement occurs. All of these symptoms are completely normal and are part of the cleansing, detoxification and healing process; this is showing that the body is reacting to the reflexology treatment and working to heal itself. The symptoms should not last long, leaving the client feeling invigorated and refreshed.

The number of treatments required will depend entirely on the condition being treated and the client’s body's needs. This will be discussed with the client following the initial treatment.

Subsequent treatments consist of a short consultation in order to assess how the client is responding to the therapy followed by up to 1 hour of treatment.
