Holistic Health Care

I am a great advocate of Holistic Health Care and believe they should work in conjunction with traditional medical treatment to provide an overall holistic approach to healing, treating mind, body and spirit and not just the underlying symptoms.
I want to share with you a definition of Holistic Health Care which truly represents my own feelings and thoughts and will give you a better understanding of my philosophy and what I believe in. I would like to acknowledge and thank the Holisitic Health Research Foundation of Canada for allowing me to reference this information.

A Definition of Holistic Health Care
"Holistic health care is the art and science of healing which embraces the integrated role of body, mind and spirit.
Holistic health care emphasizes the importance of uncovering the root cause of illness, and not merely treating symptoms. It incorporates the best available natural therapies, including a broad range of complementary and alternative treatments, as well as the best conventional (allopathic) medicine and diagnostic technology. It is respectful of traditional healing systems from many different cultures, integrating various medical perspectives and paradigms.
Holistic health care emphasizes the importance of self-reliance and knowledge in matters of health and well being, encouraging individuals to educate themselves about how best to protect and enhance their own health. It empowers individuals to share in their own health care decision-making, and to be active participants in the healing process.
Central to the philosophy of holistic health care is the idea that health is not simply the absence of disease or symptoms of disease, but a positive state, vibrant and dynamic. Holistic health care therefore encourages lifestyle choices that enhance health and provide the best possible physical, social and emotional environment conducive to optimum health. "
