Frequently Asked Questions

What is the meaning of Tula?
Tula is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning “Balance”.

How much does a Reflexology session cost?
A Reflexology session costs $90 and lasts 90 minutes.

Note: The first 15 minutes involves simply soaking the feet in a hot foot bath containing therapeutic foot salts. Next, a full medical history and lifestyle assessment is taken followed by a complete physical examination of the feet. Please note that all information recorded during the session is kept strictly confidential. The Reflexology treatment is then performed on the right foot followed by the left foot. After completion of the treatment, the lower legs and feet are treated with a cooling organic lavender and peppermint lotion and the session ends with the client taking three cleansing breaths.

What method of payment do you accept?
Cash, Debit and Credit Cards  are all accepted.

Do you offer Gift Certificates?
Yes, Gift Certificates (value of $90) are available for purchase.

What does Reflexology feel like?
Many people relate feet to tickling - Reflexology does not tickle.
Sitting in a reclining chair and with suitable ‘relaxing music’ in the background, firm pressure is applied to the feet on precise reflexes.
Some areas may feel tender, sharp, bruised or hot. These types of sensations indicate to the Reflexologist that the corresponding area in the body is out of balance. These ‘out of balance’ areas generally feel hard, lumpy, gritty or crunchy. However, it will almost certainly not be a physiological issue, as the client will have experienced no pain until precise pressure was applied. The degree of tenderness will dictate how ‘out of balance’ the corresponding bodily part is.

What is the difference between Reflexology and Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy deals with touch all over the body with major emphasis on the muscular, circulatory and lymphatic systems. Reflexology not only helps the muscular, circulatory and lymphatic systems it also profoundly effects the inside of the body. This is because with Reflexology, EVERY organ and gland in the body is worked upon through application of pressure on the corresponding reflex on the foot - thereby stimulating and enhancing the natural functioning of the organs and glands.

Who can not be treated with Reflexology?
For people with certain conditions, Reflexology is not suitable. These conditions include Thrombosis, Phlebitis and acute infectious diseases. In addition people who have had recent surgery on their feet or who have fractures, sprains, open sores or warts should not have Reflexology.

I’ve been diagnosed as having cancer, can I still have Reflexology?
Absolutely. The body is a magnificent healing machine and the act of Reflexology is simply encouraging that activity naturally. Therefore Reflexology is a very useful therapy for treating cancer patients in that the patient is receiving a ‘hands on’ treatment and by receiving a holistic treatment, they may simply feel better, especially when receiving heavy duty drug therapy.

There’s nothing wrong with me, can I still have Reflexology?
Absolutely. Reflexology is one of the best ‘preventative medicines’ and therefore may be used for example once a month for maintenance, i.e. by stimulating the body’s healing mechanism and boosting the immune system it is intended to maintain optimum levels of health and avoid many chronic, stress and immune related conditions, that we normally put up with. An hour dedicated to your own well-being has got to be a good thing!

How often should I have Reflexology?
Once a week is normal but it will depend upon what condition (if any) is being treated, how long the individual has had the condition and how they respond. Most clients have reflexology performed simply to destress and induce deep relaxation - if there are no particular health issues, then a regular monthly visit is recommended as a maintenance program for general health and relaxation. I do not recommend going longer than once a month without a treatment simply because all the benefits will be lost and you will need to start over again.

Isn’t it all in the mind?
Partly! Reflexology is a holistic therapy, i.e. treating not just the physical but also the mental and emotional levels. So the mind has a part to play in healing and many conditions nowadays are originated from the mental/emotional levels, even though the symptom appears to be very physical!

Are you insured and can I claim Reflexology treatments against my health insurance plan?
I am fully insured and my registration number is included on all receipts.
